About Kiryl Mikhalkevich

Born in Belarus in 1984, Kiryl Mikhalkevich emigrated to the U.S. in 2005, settled in San Diego, and later established Route 66 Moving and Storage. The company serves many communities throughout the area, from La Jolla to Del Mar, Encinitas, Carlsbad, Oceanside, Rancho Bernardo, Escondido, San Marcos, Carmel Valley, Poway, and Rancho Santa Fe. It also services bigger moves and storage needs in Orange County, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

A talented and successful entrepreneur, Mikhalkevich has been involved in real estate development over the last ten years, building high-end custom homes in Rancho Santa Fe, Del Mar, and La Jolla.

In Belarus, Mikhalkevich attended and graduated from the Belarusian State Medical University in Minsk, where he was a gifted student. The university is renowned worldwide as a unique center of education, science, medicine, and pharmaceutical practice.

Founder of Route 66 Moving and Storage

Kiryl Mikhalkevich named his moving and storage company after the iconic, historic, and one of the original U.S. highways—a homage to those who migrated West during the Dust Bowl of the 1930s. More than 300,000 people migrated to California via Route 66 to escape poverty and agricultural disaster.

It’s fitting that Mikhalkevich, an immigrant who came to the United States in pursuit of the American Dream and ultimately fulfilled it through hard work, resilience, and an entrepreneurial spirit that continues to drive his business forward today, chose to name his company after Route 66.

Established in 1926, Route 66 stretches from Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Monica, California, and passes through Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. The route symbolized the American spirit and the nation’s ability to overcome adversity. It also drew generations of vacationers who set out on road trips to discover the sights, scenery, and unique character of the towns and states that lined its path.

Ten decades later, Route 66 remains an iconic and beloved part of American culture, immortalized in song and literature. It’s a popular destination for travelers who can drive or bike the route to experience the region’s history, culture, and natural beauty.

The search for opportunity and a fresh start that inspired people to make the trek on Route 66 to California was behind Mikhalkevich’s desire to come to the U.S. It was only natural that he would name his first business venture in his new country, Route 66 Moving and Storage.

It’s All About Great Service

Since 2008, when Mikhalkevich opened the doors to Route 66 Moving and Storage, his focus has been to provide best-in-class service. He realized how stressful moving could be and wanted to make it as hassle-free and joyful as possible, as people started a new beginning in a new home and community.

From the very first customer call or email, Mikhalkevich ensures that his employees are responsive, provide accurate quotes so there are no surprises, and are available to answer any questions. Known by his American name, Mike, families look to Route 66 Moving and Storage to have their moves go smoothly.

“Just call us with your question or concern anytime,” he says, “and we will respond to you in the next hour or so.” Route 66 likes to maintain open communication with its customers, so they will always know when the movers will be there, how long their move will take, and, importantly, which fragile, perishable, and valuable possessions customers want delivered safely.

Recognized as one of the best moving companies in California, Route 66 Moving and Storage focuses on residential and commercial moves between San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

More than a Moving Company

For Kiryl Mikhalkevich, Route 66 Moving and Storage is not just a moving company. It delivers much more. It’s a way to say thank you for the opportunity this country has provided him to succeed and earn a good living. It’s also a way for him to contribute to the U.S. and California economies by providing jobs and making life easier for countless families.

He invested a great deal of time, energy, and resources in founding and building Route 66 Moving and Storage, underscoring his commitment to making a life for himself in the U.S. and to building a better future. It also allowed him to venture into other areas, such as real estate development – a complementary business to Route 66.

Additionally, Mikhalkevich believes that starting a business can be a way for immigrants to pursue their passions and interests and to contribute their unique skills, ideas, and experiences to their new communities.

On the Personal Side

Outside of work, Mikhalkevich enjoys taking to the skies as a private pilot and is certified to fly both Cessna and Cirrus aircraft.

He also gives back to his local community of Del Mar, San Diego. Mikhalkevich understands the importance of contributing to the health and welfare of the community that has supported his journey and success.
